How it keeps time
- Length: 1 minute = 60 seconds.
- On Start: end time = the moment you start + 60 s, read from your device’s clock.
- Every update: time left = end time − now, rounded up to the whole second — so it never drifts, even in a background tab.
What a 1-minute timer is good for
- Reading fluency checks. Teachers measure oral reading fluency by having a student read aloud from an unpracticed passage for exactly one minute, then subtracting the errors from the words read to get words correct per minute (WCPM). Reading Rockets hosts the widely used Hasbrouck–Tindal norms for comparing the result with other students in the same grade.
- Home blood-pressure readings. The American Heart Association advises taking two readings one minute apart and recording both. Start this timer as soon as the first reading is done; before the first one, rest quietly for at least five minutes (the 5 minute timer covers that).
- Fact drills and sprints. A one-minute round on times tables or spelling words is a quick way to track progress from week to week. Tick Repeat and the timer restarts on its own after a short chime, for back-to-back rounds; the multiplication table is handy for building the questions.
- Speaking practice. A minute is a common limit for a self-introduction or a practice interview answer. If you are still talking when the alarm goes, trim it.
Why a short timer needs to be exact
Over one minute, a timer that counts “ticks” can easily lose a second or two, especially on a busy phone. This one records the end time the moment you press Start and shows end time − now, rounded up, so 01:00 shows at the start and 00:00 appears only when the full 60 seconds have passed. For timing how long something takes rather than counting down, use the stopwatch.
How this timer works
Press Start, tap the digits or press Space. The timer saves the end time on your device’s clock and shows end time − now, rounded up to the second, so it stays exact even when your browser slows down background tabs; the remaining time also shows in the tab’s title. The alarm is scheduled on the Web Audio clock for the end time and beeps for up to a minute (phones that support it also vibrate). While the timer runs, the page asks the browser to keep the screen on. Nothing is sent anywhere: the timer runs entirely in your browser.

Is this 1 minute timer accurate?
Yes, to the accuracy of your device’s clock. It stores the end time when you press Start and always shows the difference between that and the current time, so it can’t drift, and the alarm is scheduled on the audio clock for the same moment.
How do I run several one-minute rounds in a row?
Tick Repeat. When a minute ends you hear a short chime and the next minute starts immediately, measured from the exact end of the previous one. Press Pause or Reset to stop.
Can I start it without touching the screen?
