How it keeps time

  1. Length: 15 minutes = 900 seconds.
  2. On Start: end time = the moment you start + 900 s, read from your device’s clock.
  3. Every update: time left = end time − now, rounded up to the whole second — so it never drifts, even in a background tab.

Where 15 minutes comes up

  • Daily stand-ups. The Scrum Guide defines the Daily Scrum as a 15-minute event for the developers on a Scrum team, held at the same time and place every working day. Put this timer on a shared screen in full screen and the whole team can see how much of the time-box is left.
  • The 15-15 rule for low blood sugar. The CDC’s advice for people with diabetes: if your blood sugar is low (below 70 mg/dL), have 15 grams of carbohydrate, wait 15 minutes, then check again, and repeat if it’s still low. This timer covers the wait.
  • After a vaccination. The CDC advises providers to consider observing patients, seated or lying down, for 15 minutes after vaccination, because most fainting after vaccines happens within that window.
  • A longer break. In the Pomodoro Technique, after four 25-minute work periods you take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes — the Pomodoro timer schedules a 15-minute one for you.

Keeping to a time-box

For meetings, a visible countdown works better than a watch: everyone sees the same number, and nobody has to be the one who says “time’s up”. The page title shows the remaining time too, so if you are presenting from another tab you can still see it in the tab bar. If the discussion genuinely needs longer, +1 min extends it without restarting.

This page is general information, not medical advice. Follow the instructions of your own doctor or care team.

How this timer works

Press Start, tap the digits or press Space. The timer saves the end time on your device’s clock and shows end time − now, rounded up to the second, so it stays exact even when your browser slows down background tabs; the remaining time also shows in the tab’s title. The alarm is scheduled on the Web Audio clock for the end time and beeps for up to a minute (phones that support it also vibrate). While the timer runs, the page asks the browser to keep the screen on. Nothing is sent anywhere: the timer runs entirely in your browser.

Other timers

Shorter: 10 Minute Timer. Longer: 20 Minute Timer. For any other length, use the countdown timer; to time how long something takes, use the stopwatch. Counting down to a date instead? See the holiday countdowns.
