How the date is worked out
- Easter is the first Sunday after the ecclesiastical full moon on or after March 21. We compute it with the Anonymous Gregorian (Meeus/Jones/Butcher) algorithm for Y = 2027:

Why Easter moves
Western churches celebrate Easter on the first Sunday after the first ecclesiastical full moon on or after March 21. That “full moon” comes from church tables rather than from the sky, and March 21 is fixed rather than the actual equinox. The rule puts Easter anywhere from March 22 to April 25. The working above shows the whole calculation for 2027 using the Anonymous Gregorian algorithm (also known as the Meeus/Jones/Butcher algorithm), which reproduces the church tables for any year of the Gregorian calendar. Orthodox churches base the calculation on the older Julian calendar, so their Easter often falls on a later Sunday.
